Kate Davis


Kate Davis was born and raised in South Florida, USA, then earned her BA from Rutgers University and her MLIS from the University of Denver. She has been working in education for the past decade in places like South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and Denver, Colorado, USA. Ms. Davis is so excited to begin her life in Nigeria with the AISA community! She enjoys reading, traveling and learning. ¡Ella aspira a ser bilingue, asi que anímate a hablar con ella en inglés!

Abisoye Taylor

Registrar/Admissions Coordinator

Abisoye Taylor was born in Lagos, Nigeria. She has a Diploma in Business Studies from Croydon College, United Kingdom, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja. Abisoye is a Graduate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management. She loves the AISA community and looks forward to the new and exciting twists each day brings. One thing you didn’t know about Abisoye is that she is a handbag designer when she is not working at school, has six cats, and co-owns a dog named Jabi.

Ade Masha

Head of School Administrative Assistant

Ade Masha is a Masters Graduate of Finance and Business Management and completed an Undergraduate Degree in Marketing and Media Practices from the University of Bedfordshire. She recently relocated to Nigeria from London to seek new opportunities and to be part of the growing initiatives in Africa. Ade likes AISA because it’s a perfect blend of culture and a great environment.

Vivian Bolum


Vivian is from Delta State, Nigeria. She is a Registered Nurse/Midwife and worked as an emergency nurse at the National Hospital in Abuja, a Nurse Midwife in NISA Premier Jabi, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asaba. Vivian also worked as a community Nurse in Abaji and has experience in Child Health and Psychiatry. Vivian came to AISA to gain more experience in Child Health and Education. She likes AISA because it has a friendly environment. Vivian is very understanding, calm, and ready to listen at all times.

​Jamie Phillips

Math Coach

​Jamie is from Orlando, Florida. She has a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Haven and an undergraduate degree in French from the University of Florida. She also has certification in teaching English as a Second Language. Before moving to Abuja, Jamie taught English as a Second Language overseas and then worked as an in-house substitute teacher in the United States. So far, one of her favorite things about Abuja is that it feels a bit like Florida during the hurricane season. It’s warm, and thunderstorms happen regularly. Jamie finds the community to be a welcoming group of people.

Lisa Emanuel

Literacy Coach

Lisa Emanuel grew up in Denver in the US. She began her career in education as an elementary and middle school teacher in Chicago Public Schools where she loved working in small schools with a strong sense of community. She has worked in international schools since 2012: first at Taipei American School in Taiwan and then at the International School Nido de Aguilas in Santiago, Chile. Lisa holds a BS in Journalism and International Studies from Northwestern University, an MAT from National-Louis University, and a Reading Specialist certification. Reading, writing, and learning about languages are some of Lisa’s favorite things, so she is very excited to be a part of the AISA community as a Literacy Coach. In her spare time, she also enjoys traveling, hiking, and swing dancing.

Wies Kienhuis

ES Counselor

Wies Kienhuis was born and raised in the Netherlands. She has a Masters of Professional Counselling and Bachelor of Social Work in Music Therapy. Her first real move abroad was to Burkina Faso and is excited to move back to West-Africa.


In her free time, she likes to be creative, outdoors, and in the company of good friends.

Ellen Williamson

Technology Integrationist

Ellen Williamson spent the past two years as a Technology Coordinator in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Prior to that, she taught at Vision International School in Doha, Qatar for two years and seven years teaching at Palo Alto Middle School in Killeen, TX. She has taught grade 5 homeroom, AVID, World Geography, and American History. She also served as an AVID coordinator. 


Ellen completed her undergraduate degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX where she was inducted to the Kappa Delta Pi honor society. She is a certified Level 2 Google Educator and is pursuing her Google Trainer certification.​

Brad Mock

Learning Support

Born in Michigan and raised in metropolitan Detroit, Brad Mock became a teacher in Benin while serving in the United States Peace Corps. Serving a rural community as an English teacher and helping build the capacity of local teachers became a passion for him. Most recently, Mr. Mock is coming from Richmond, Virginia where he worked as an Exceptional Education teacher and a Civics and Economics teacher. 


Mr. Mock holds a Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and a Masters of Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. In Richmond he was the Vice President of his local Educator’s Association which focused on working with parents in under-served communities and advocating for the education that all children deserve.


Family is an important part of Mr. Mock’s life. His wife, Sarah L. Pedersen, has joined the AISA team as well and they will be joined by their young daughter, Eleanor Joyce Mock. Mr. Mock loves anything to do with athletics, reading, hiking, and all things related to his hometown of Detroit. Mr. Mock is super excited to be joining the team at AISA and cannot wait to explore and learn with the Abuja community.

Natasha Ackerman

EAL Teacher

Tasha Ackerman grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She studied English, Spanish, and ESL during her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and then obtained her Teaching License with her Masters of Education specializing in Second Language Education from the same university. She has worked with globally diverse learners from pre-k through 12th grade in the United States, Spain, and Colombia.

Tasha is drawn to AISA for the welcoming international community and opportunity to immerse herself in Nigerian culture. She looks forward to the personal and professional development opportunities at AISA, and to build strong connections with her students and the communities within AISA and Abuja.

Elias Torres

EAL Teacher

Elias Torres hails from the great state of Texas. He comes to AISA with 10 years of teaching experience having worked with students in all grade levels at schools in South Korea and the United States. He also served as an education volunteer with Peace Corps Lesotho working to enhance the preschool education system in his community.

Elias holds a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science from the University of Texas Pan American and a Master of Business Administration in Nonprofit Management from Brandeis University. 


Among other things, he enjoys cooking and baking, traveling the world, and singing karaoke. 


Jennifer Owan

MS Guidance Counselor

Jennifer Owan was born in Jamaica, West Indies. She migrated to the USA at the age of 12, and lived in New York City, before moving to Nigeria. She is a graduate of Adelphi University and Long Island University in New York. She has worked as a Guidance Counselor since 1997. Jennifer loves the diversity at AISA.

Rivien Amobi

HS Guidance Counselor

Ms. Rivien Amobi was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received a Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Sociology from Mount St. Mary’s College, a Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology from National University, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (ABD) from Ryokan College. Rivien has 9 years of teaching experience and 9 years as a Guidance Counselor.

Chinwe Obinwanne

Human Resources Manager

Mrs. Chinwe Obinwanne is from Imo State and was born and raised in Enugu State. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Banking and Finance and an Advanced Professional Diploma in Management Studies from EDEXCEL, United Kingdom. Chinwe has been working at AISA since 2000.
