Advanced Placement Program
AISA began offering AP courses in 2007-2008. Since then, all AISA graduates have taken one or more AP exams, with many students obtaining AP Scholar awards.
On average, we have around 70 HS students taking AP courses, and every year AISA administers about 190 paper and pencil AP exams. We also have a growing number of students taking advantage of the AP Capstone program.
AP Capstone
AP capstone increases the stakes, helping students focus their energy towards a final project and the continuation of learning. The Capstone Program Hones skills: As students apply skills and knowledge to a self-driven project, they learn to be critical thinkers and ask inquiry questions before entering the professional world.
Many top-tier universities in the States and beyond recognize the AP Capstone Program. The American International School of Abuja is one of two AP capstone schools in Africa. AP Capstone includes two AP courses, AP Seminar, and AP Research. To be eligible for the AP Capstone Diploma, students must complete at least 4 AP courses, plus AP Seminar and AP Research. AP Capstone fosters the research, argumentation, and communication skills at the core of college readiness and essential for lifelong learning.
Pre-AP
AISA is privileged to be one of the ten only international Schools selected and sponsored to offer Pre-AP courses. Pre AP courses deliver grade-level appropriate instruction through focused course frameworks, instructional resources, classroom assessments for learning, and collaborative educator workshops. The Pre AP courses follow a design premise that supports all students across varying levels of abilities.
Offering Pre-AP courses signals AISA’s commitment to preparing all students for success in high school and beyond.
